Hip Hop Yoga at City Winery ATL
Yoga is a fitness activity that you have to work at. Most people either love it or they don’t. In the past few years I’ve grown quite fond of it. I don’t practice as much as before but some things just stick. Most yoga classes stream calming music to help people focus. When I heard about Hip Hop Yoga at City Winery Atlanta I was intrigued.
I tried to wrap my head around the concept of urban music in a usually tranquil setting. Would I get distracted and sing along with the tracks? What if I didn’t like the songs that were played? What if the instructor had no personality? Nothing could prepare me for what happened.
Our instructor was the multi-talented Jaimee Ratcliff. She was petite and pushed us to the limit. She put us in ‘lizard’ pose. I was not familiar with this one at all. She spoke from her heart about finding her purpose and becoming a yoga instructor. She created a sense of community in the 120+ person class. This was unlike any yoga course I’ve taken.
Although I did get a little caught up in a few musical selections, I maintained my concentration. I love old school hip hop! Hearing Missy Elliot, Aaliyah and even Faith Evans took me back to my high school days. Everyone that I met was super nice and equally excited about the event. Jaimee also raffled off some sensational items such as a hot/cold insulated bottle and an essential oil gift set.
At the end we celebrated with freshly poured mimosas. This sold out affair was worth getting up early on a Saturday. City Winery is my favorite venue in Atlanta so it was a no brainer when I heard about this. I would absolutely attend another Hip Hop Yoga session with Jaimee Ratcliff. She was motivating and kept the mood light. Click Here for more events happening this summer at City Winery Atlanta.
