RAPPER T.I. SUPPORTS SON DOMANI'S 2019 ASCAP OTCU PERFORMANCE
ATLANTA, August 23, 2019 – Last night, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) returned to Atlanta with its annual “On the Come Up” showcase series at Vinyl. The high energy event featured music artists Domani, Armani Ceasar, Ayanis, Brie, Janiyah and special guest, two-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter Johntá Austin. Media personality Anisa Brenee hosted for the second year in a row and music was provided by DJ Moran Tha Man. Atlantic Records signee Ayanis opened the show with her remake of 90s hit “Too Close” by R&B group Next. She coins herself as a classic 90s baby drawing inspiration from the music era on her debut EP Direction. Armani Caesar gave a fiery performance of her new single “Big Ole Bag” and previewed some new music. Singer, songwriter, and actress Brie was joined onstage with a live band and jammed to her single “Passive” from her EP Hard 2 Love. Janiyah, aka “Sad Girl,” began with Aliyah’s hit song “One in a Million” and ended with her own single “Pretend.” Special guest Johntá Austin, known for songwriting credits on hits like “Sweet Lady” by Tyrese and “We Belong Together” by Mariah Carey, gave a throwback performance as the crowd enjoyed singing along. His long-awaited album, Love, Sex, & Religion, recently dropped on August 2 on all music platforms. Domani ended the night performing songs from his album released this summer, Time Will Tell. The crowd knew every lyric while his father, rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris, proudly supported in the audience. ASCAP’s “On the Come Up” is a showcase series that began as a newsletter chronicling ASCAP’s rising urban songwriters and producers. Over the past few years, “On the Come Up” has identified the industry’s next chart-topping leaders including Miguel, DeJ Loaf, Fetty Wap, Tasha Cobbs, Mike Will Made-It, Eric Bellinger and Jonathan McReynolds. The event has since come to life as an ongoing series of showcases throughout the country, featuring exclusive, intimate performances with artists tapped to break next, focusing on ASCAP members who are experiencing their first taste of chart success. The showcases give rising stars a high-profile opportunity to introduce their talents and are the perfect chance for audiences to get to know these new faces and voices.
