THE PANTRY & PROVISIONS OPENS DOWNTOWN AND SERVES UP A CHARITABLE SPIN ON FABLED AND ICONIC SANDWICHES

The Pantry & Provisions, a new restaurant and bodega-style market located in The Healey Building, at 57 Forsyth Street NW, in the Fairlie-Poplar district of Atlanta, opens this month. The restaurant highlights North America’s diverse sandwich culture through the eyes of culinary director and owner, Brady Lowe. The Pantry is a fast-casual gourmet sandwich shop filled with hand-crafted ingredients. Short for chef’s pantry, guests can cherry pick from an extensive list of chef-prepared ingredients and meal kits from the walk-in refrigerator to take home.

The Pantry is committed to supporting charitable causes and will donate one dollar of select sandwiches to Piggy Bank, a non-profit farm in Missouri with the mission to preserve and protect endangered breeds of heritage pigs. The restaurant is also tip-free, adding instead a 4% “hospitality provision” to cover health insurance for all its employees.

The concept is a melting pot of regional pride and cultures. The menu is a playlist of “stand-in-the-line” sandwich tributes and originals that are contemporary riffs on childhood classics. Different parts of the United States have sandwiches they call their own; Chicago crowned the Chicago Dog; Muffaletta is the king of New Orleans; Iowa is home to the loose meat sandwich and Eggslut is the breakfast phenomenon in Los Angeles. Atlanta is lesser known for sandwich lore but is home to the Club Sandwich, which was first published in Atlanta Constitution in 1897. The city was a bustling hub for travelers and the original Durand’s “Coogler Club” went on to become a national lunchtime hero.

The dining experience is a curation of stories and historic inspirations including vegan, paleo and Whole30-friendly options. For example, the flavorful “Dan Dan Bahn Mi” is secretly dressed with Sichuan chili crisp, the Sloppy Joe served on a soft Martin’s roll with Duke’s Mayo and the Pimento Press Burger can all be ordered vegan. The Pantry offers house made green juice and a creative selection of non-dairy cold-brew mocktails. Guests wanting a caffeine fix flock to the “Girl Scout Cookie” and the very popular “Chunky Monkey”; a cold brew concoction steeped with cocoa nibs and banana chips finished with Elmhurst’s cashew milk.

The gourmet sandwich shop will celebrate its Grand Opening with a VIP event on Monday Sept. 30th, starting with a sandwich cutting ceremony at 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. Friends of the community don’t have to wait as the restaurant is now open for breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more about The Pantry & Provisions, please visit www.thepantryatl.com or Facebook and Instagram at @thepantryatl. “Our mission is to create a scalable restaurant model that operates on the values of inclusivity, sustainability, integrity and responsibility,” said owner, Brady Lowe. “We believe in being mindful of the well-being of our guests, as well as our employees, our purveyors and our community. We believe in supporting our growers, farmers and artisans and using the best ingredients for our menu and events.”
