Atlanta native completes successful assignment aboard oldest commissioned warship
BOSTON – Atlanta, Georgia, native, aviation boatswain’s mate (handling) 3rd Class Jabari Shabazz bid farewell to the officers and crew after completing a successful, 2-year tour aboard USS Constitution, Dec. 27.
Duty aboard USS Constitution is one of the Navy’s special programs, and all prospective crewmembers must meet a high standard of sustained excellence and interview to be selected for the assignment.
“It was a great honor to serve aboard Old Ironsides and to be a part of her living history,” said Shabazz. “I look forward to the future and my next steps in the Navy.”
With more than 90 percent of all trade traveling by sea, and 95 percent of the world’s international phone and internet traffic carried through fiber optic cables lying on the ocean floor, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity and security of the United States is directly linked to a strong and ready Navy.
