Family Of George Floyd Continues To Fight For Change On Juneteenth

Last month marked the 3rd anniversary of George Floyd’s tragic murder in Minneapolis. This horrifying incident of police brutality ignited protests and unity on an international stage. With Juneteenth coming up, the uncle of George Floyd is advocating for greater progress.

Selwyn Jones is the co-founder of the Hope929 Foundation, the charity focused on promoting civil rights and creating change in honor of his nephew George Floyd. On a mission to make a positive impact for communities, Uncle Selwyn has traveled the country over the last 3 years speaking with the families of other victims of police violence and letting them know they’re not alone.

He is building up the conversation of equality for all races in America and improving treatment of minorities. Selwyn has been rallying support in different states for passage of The Medical Civil Rights Bill which he believes will save lives. It was just approved last week by the state government in Connecticut and would establish the legal right to medical care during any police interaction where an individual communicates they are having a health crisis.

With Juneteenth next week, Selwyn is shining a light on the struggles African Americans are still faced with in this nation and is continuing his efforts to end racism. Speaking with Scripps News, he said, “I am going everywhere to make this world a better place and to make people in this world feel safe whether you’re black, blue, green, or orange.”

Turning an unimaginable tragedy into an opportunity for change, along with his co-founder of the Hope929 organization and Harrison, AK councilwoman Liz Darden, Selwyn is moving forward and pushing to make communities everywhere better for all our children.
