GRAMMY® AWARD-WINNING LEGEND ANTHONY HAMILTON TO DELIVER KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT JCSU’S 150TH
GRAMMY® Award-winning, multiplatinum singer, songwriter, producer, and actor Anthony Hamilton will take the stage to deliver the keynote address to Johnson C. Smith University graduates during the 150th Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 11am ET in Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. The Charlotte native will also be awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree during the the ceremony. Hamilton was born in Charlotte, N.C. and began his singing career at the age of 17 when he joined his church choir. Hamilton burst onto the scene in 2003 with his smash hit “Charlene,” which garnered the attention of NPR and resulted in him starring in their documentary series, “Noteworthy.” Throughout his career, he has sold more than 50 million albums. His success in the music industry landed him in the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame and granted him the opportunity to perform for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. In 2021, Hamilton released his 10th full-length studio offering and flagship release for his own label My Music Box in partnership with BMG, “Love Is the New Black.” Not only is Hamilton a songwriter, producer and actor, but after adding author and publisher to his lists of accomplishments with the unveiling of his first self-published book “Cornbread, Fish n' Collard Greens,” he is now flexing his entrepreneurial muscle as he delves into the retail and e-commerce space with the launches of both Hamilton Corner Store, boasting “kitchen staples for every kitchen,” and the Frances Grey x Anthony Hamilton Legacy Collection, his signature custom hat line. In addtion to announcing his upcoming spring and summer 2023 tour, Anthony Hamilton feat. The Ton3s will perform at the 2023 Black Music Honors in celebration of Black Music Month. The two-hour special will premiere on the Stellar Network on June 3 and will air in national broadcast syndication from Saturday, June 10 to Sunday, July 2.
